Prisons around the world
Prison Insider is an association created by Bernard Bolze, founder of the International Observatory on Prisons (OIP). Prison Insider aims to raise awareness about detention conditions and uphold the rights and dignity of those deprived of freedom throughout the world. Prison Insider provides a tool for comparison and encourages best practice, testimony and solidarity. For their website about prisons in the world, they required our digital expertise.
The Prison Insider site gathers multiple resources on the prison world: annual report in the country profiles section, surveys and analyzes, artistic glances and other useful documents on international imprisonment. To highlight the content and echo the confinement, the web art direction is based on a subtle graphic system of notable borders, framing navigation and call-to-action.
One of the fundamental parts of the site is focused on the country profiles: it gives access to a summary description of the conditions of detention on a national level, as well as information, images, testimonies, press article… Every year, a detailed annual report on each country comes, offering consequent resources to journalists and universities.
To go further in the analysis of prison conditions, a comparison tool makes a face to face of two countries possible and thus allow to quickly analyze their key data more easily. It supports Prison Insider's willingness to be the first media on prison information in the world.
The site offers to make monthly donations to Prison Insider, supporting their cause. To achieve this, a payment tunnel via Stripe coupled with a user account management has been custom-developed.
The launch of the Prison Insider platform gave us an opportunity to test the foundations of Roadiz. Based on Symfony components, our CMS allowed us to develop the tailor-made e-commerce layer linked to the Stripe payment gateway for subscriptions and donations. Moreover, we were able to stick as closely as possible to the editorial needs of Prison Insider thanks to the data structure polymorphism, in order to create the "Annual reports by country" cards and the comparative tool.
